Today I’m sharing with you a running list of journal prompts & questions you can ask yourself. Answer the ones you feel drawn to. Take your time exploring them. Come back to this page and bookmark it for a later date.
Does this sound like you?
“How often should I journal?”
“People on the internet say they journal every day. Am I expected to do that?”
“How does one incorporate journaling into their life?”
If so, I’m here to tell you, there’s no right or wrong way to journal. Journal when you feel like it. It doesn’t have to be a daily practice; all it has to be is something meaningful to you. If you’ve ever had a lot of emotions, and you don't know where to start or what to do with them, you might find journaling helps. Journaling can help by helping you process those emotions in a much healthier way than drinking, smoking, partying, or any other vice that results in escapism. Traveling can also be a form of escapism! Binge eating or extreme dieting can also be a form of escapism. Working out until you injure yourself is also a form of escapism. Just about anything can be a form of escaping your problems and negative emotions.
But here’s the thing…
Your problems, doubts, and negative feelings are still going to be there whenever you’re done doing your coping methods.
So why not give journaling a try? It doesn’t hurt. And who knows, you might be surprised. I sure was.
Here are some journaling prompts, but if none of these fit you or your needs all you need is a piece of paper. Write about what you're feeling, and ask yourself why 7 times.
For example:
I’m creating this post to help others.
Why? Because I haven’t found journaling questions like these on the internet.
Why? Because I actually need a running list for myself.
Why? Because sometimes I don’t always know what I need until I read it. Sometimes I feel like something is missing. Whether it’s a word or a phrase. I don’t always know how to phrase it when my emotions are heavy.
Why? Because I have a history of being an adrenaline junkie and having anger issues to the point of needing to escape from them. My methods of escape are usually either dangerous to myself or sleeping endlessly. There’s no in-between.
Why? I realize the way I deal with my emotions are the ways my parents and my siblings also deal with their emotions. They’re learned behaviors. I just seemingly seem to have both sides of the coin, and I want to break the cycle. I don’t want to be avoidant or a danger to myself anymore.
Why? Because I want a healthy relationship with my adventures. I don’t want to use them as a means to escape. I want to act on them with a clear head and a clear heart.
Why? Because I LOVE adventuring. I love experiencing new things, and I absolutely love filming or sharing what I got from the experience. It’s the type of content I do enjoy to make.
You see what I did there? I could keep going with my “Why’s” and get a deeper answer to my first initial prompt, but I already came full circle. If you haven’t yet you can keep going or you can check out the prompts below!
